The Best Leggings For Working Out

Updated: May 15, 2019

The term "athleisure" annoys me. Mainly due to the confusion it has caused when purchasing leggings—are they leggings to work out in or just overpriced pants you wear to the coffee shop when you're hungover?

Some have suggested athleisure as work appropriate but unless you're a personal trainer or work from home, this is extremely misguided advice.

I've tried my fair share of workouts and consequently a shit ton of leggings. Here are some of my tried and true favorites that can actually hold up against a workout, won't give you crotch sweat AND look good.

LULULEMON

PROS:

Extremely comfortable

Great compression

Never lose their shape even after many months of washing

Multiple length options (tall inseam: 35")

CONS:

On the thicker side, can be a little hot

Pricey, but check the "We Made Too Much" section for slightly cheaper options like these Align Pants 28"

GIRLFRIEND COLLECTIVE

PROS:

Comfortable with good compression

Amazing color options

Insanely cute matching sports bra tops

Offers plus sizing

Eco-friendly- made from recycled water bottles

Very affordable

CONS:

Seams can unravel over time

Inseam is shorter than I like

Seasonal colors are limited edition and sell out fast

CHAMPION C9

PROS:

High compression and super comfortable

Very high rise

Side pockets that actually keep a phone in place

Cheap price but last a very long time

CONS:

Shiny finish

OUTDOOR VOICES

PROS:

20% off first order

The one light colored legging I trust

Super soft and comfortable

CONS:

A little pricey

Not the best color options

Styles can be a little normcore

SPLITS 59

PROS:

Great compression

Awesome fit

Not too sheer and not too thick

CONS:

Inseam could be longer

BEYOND YOGA

PROS:

Insanely soft

Like, the softest

Not too sheer and not too thick

Great for working out in but also pretty much anything

Pricey

CONS:

Stretch out easily after too many washes

Suggest air dry rather than the dryer
