Netflix Picks of The Week

Updated: May 15, 2019

There's nothing more annoying than trying to decide what to watch on Netflix. That is, if you're actually trying to "Netflix and Chill" in the most literal sense of the term. So I've rounded up my favorites of the week. Here's my "one's to watch" on Netflix.

FYRE: The Greatest Party That Never Happened

I vaguely remember hearing about Fyre festival back in 2016. People were referring to it as, "Coachella for the elite" and if does't nauseate you enough then this hour and a half long Netflix doc certainly will, but in a fascinating, can't look away, train-wreck, "Making A Murderer" sort of way. The doc raises some very compelling issues like integrity in marketing and advertising (or is that an oxymoron?), our obsession with "influencers" and celebrity, and will the social media bubble ever burst? If like me, you're still intrigued, then there's this Hulu documentary "Fyre Fraud" which is equally as enthralling as it is infuriating.

SEBASTIAN MANISCALCO: Stay Hungry

At a time when people (particularly millennials) are offended by just about everything, this is a nice break from all the noise no matter where you stand. I had never heard of this guy but decided to give him a shot and laughed solidly for an entire hour. After a little further research I learned he also has a memoir out called, "Stay Hungry".

AMERICAN CRIME STORY: The Assassination of Gianni Versace

If you're into true crime and have yet to see American Crime Story season one, The People v. OJ Simpson, then I highly recommend it (you don't need to watch the first season to understand the second as they're two separate cases). I never knew the story of Gianni Versace but after one episode I was super into it. Visually it's obviously a beautiful, because well, Versace. It's shot in Miami and takes place in the 90's. The casting of Penelope Cruz as Donnatella is questionable but I think still manages to be compelling, plus it recieved a score of 88% on Rotten Tomatoes.
