Beauty: This Allure expose "How Augustinus Bader Made Us Believe" by Brennan KIlbane, reads like a Netflix crime doc and literally saved me from a very regrettable beauty investment...for now. My current creative writer crush: "Episode" is a column in the NYT Style section that explores a moment in a writer’s life. "Greetings from my shameless summer: Wear the crop top. Have the salad — and the fries, too" is a brilliant literary ADD whirlwind by Mitra Jouhari (also a writer on Big Mouth) that's so good and I wish I wrote it.
A beauty newsletter worthy of your inbox: Gloss etc. is a snackable weekly email by ex-Marie Claire beauty directors, sarah @tarca and @sherineyoussef. It's product recs, budget buys, IG follows, ingredients info, and reviews on treatments for very unsexy (and V real) issues like perioral dermatitis, hyperpigmentation, and rosacea.
What I'm listening to
Music: I recently saw FKJ at the Greeke. His music is like jazz, neo-soul, electronic, and psych-rock. The French Kiwi Juice 2017 album is my favorite specifically the song Lying Together, it literally gives me a physical reaction (as does this man's beauty, he's French and New Zealander hence French kiwi). But lately I've had this banger on repeat.
What I'm buying Wellness shit:
If you're an avid podcaster or spend an exorbitant amount on placebo potions at Erewhon, then you've probably heard of this probiotic Seed. I've tried quite a few over the years and this one has been given the seal of approval by most wellness-y peeps I subscribe to. It's too soon to give a definitive review but 4 days in I'm feeling quite "regular" (see Family Skit above). There's something propietary in how this kind of capsule stays intact until it reaches the gut so you get the maximum potency.
Fashion shit:
High fashion is not my forte. But I like looking cute and this Who What Wear podcast episode covers the fall trends. 90's minimalism is still reigning and biker core is back. So, silk slip dresses, low-slung trousers, leather trousers, oversized moto jackets (check out ebay for vintage Ralph Lauren men's leather jackets). And for shoes, apparently the Adidas Sambas sneaker is the new Stan Smith (and thank F'ing god bc I can't bare to see that fugly green shoe on another tech bro talking about crypto in this MF city.) I digress...
So the perfect white tank is also V on-trend (has it ever not been?) Personally, the perfect white tank has been a lifelong pursuit of mine. And you def don't need Prada's $1K white tank. I'm loving these $16 Brandy Melville tanks, they're kinda a dupe of the $38 Skims that are always sold out. Proceed with caution bc Brandy Melville's are 90's in every way—they're small, one-size, and mid-drift baring. I also tried the V pricey Negative Underwear $70 Whipped tank. It was V disappointing and I highly suggest skipping it.
