Glossier Bubblewrap: Is Eye Cream Really Necessary?

Glossier, specifically Boy Brow, Skin Tint, Lash Slick and Future Dew (review to come!), have a permanent place in my makeup lineup. However, when it comes to skincare, I live and die by Paula's Choice products and doctrine.

Surprisingly Paula's Choice originally made the claim that "eye creams are NOT necessary". Reason being, a lot of eye creams are the exact same formulation as a face moisturizer only repackaged into a tiny jar and marked up by 80%... literally.

Obviously, there are some effective eye creams out there, even PC has jumped on the bandwagon (which is convincing and also questionable). So, since warming up to the idea of an eye cream, I've discovered Glossier's Bubblewrap Eye + Lip Plumping Cream.

Here's what you need to know...

PACKAGING

Glossier Bubblewrap caught my eye not because it's flashy or cute, but because unlike most of the tiny eye cream pots you uncap and recap and dip your grubby little pinkies into day in and day out, Bubblewrap is housed in an airtight, aluminum pump dispenser. This keeps the ingredients safe from air and light so they're actually effective by the time they reach your face.

INGREDIENTS

Bubblewrap includes a ton of skin-replenishing ingredients like peptides, antioxidants to help mitigate sun damage (blueberry extract), squalane and avocado oil for hydration and it plumps the skin using sodium hyaluronate (the purest form of hyaluronic acid which can retain close to 1000 times its weight in water).

MULTI-TASKS

Good for eyes AND lips. But, if I could Bubblewrap my body I most definitely would.

IT DOES WHAT IT SAYS

This product doesn't make sweeping claims like, "Botox in a bottle" or "eliminates crow's feet and under-eye circles". No, it hydrates. And hydration is the name of the game, people. It makes a big difference when your skin is hydrated, especially this delicate area. After using twice a day every day for a month and a half I really did notice a difference, BUT, it's temporary. I mean, you can't drink one glass of water and expect to retain it for weeks—days, even.

FINAL VERDICT:

Is eye cream necessary? Unless you've adopted Kim Kardashian's approach to eliminating wrinkles and avoid smiling altogether, then your eyes are inevitably going to show your age. But IMHO, if you have a tight skincare budget or have invested in a skincare regimen that covers the basics then I don't think eye cream is your #1 priority.

For those who are eye cream curious, my only advice is to have realistic expectations. Don't splurge on a thimble-sized, screw-top pot for $50 and expect to look like a wide-eyed baby fresh from the womb. It's just not going to happen. So start with something super hydrating, properly packaged and under $30.
