Beauty Tips From MUA, Lindsey Jackson

If you're looking to switch things up in the new year, check out these beauty tips from professional makeup artist, Lindsey Jackson.

Lindsey is the Artistry & Training Lead for Artis, a luxury cosmetic brand deemed "the Rolls-Royce of makeup brushes" and was listed as Oprah's "Favorite Things of 2018".

Lindsey has nearly 13 years of professional makeup experience. She worked at Mario Badescu Skin Care and spent nearly 10 years as a makeup artist at Bobbi Brown, a brand we can thank for single-handedly putting the "no-makeup" makeup look on the map.

Lindsey's background in both makeup and skincare is what gives her such an amazing aesthetic, and one I've trusted since living together in our tiny Brooklyn apt about a mile from any subway station in sight. If you've had the privilege to live with a MUA, then you know what heaven feels like, because it's essentially a 24/7 Sephora expert (without the up-sell and clown makeup). Truly, it's a beauty fan's dream.

So, I'm sharing the wealth - here are some of Lindsey's favorite makeup and skincare tips and products!

What’s your day-to-day look like?

I'm the artistry and education lead for beauty brand, Artís Brush. I create content that teaches people about our brand and our brushes. Day-to-day, I teach other makeup artists how to use our brushes and work with our in-house team to create educational content and travel globally to train retail partners and makeup artists.

What’s your go-to everyday makeup look?

My go-to, everyday product is definitely Bobbi brown highlighting powder in pink glow. When in doubt, highlighter, moisturizer, and a swipe of Maybelline Collosal Big Shot Mascara in Blackest Black. Depending on how well rested I am, I’ll swipe on Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer under my eye and a thick lip balm like this Bobbi Brown.

What’s your favorite night-out makeup look?

Adding whatever eye shadow I wore during the day to my bottom lash line and lots of highlighter. It’s an easy way to accentuate your eyes with minimal effort and change from day to night, while adding maximum reflection to the skin, so I look hydrated and HIGHLIGHTED even in the dark.

Favorite makeup products?

Right now, I'm loving Glossier Brow Flick and Bobbi Brown Highlighting Powder in Pink Glow. I also love Stellar Beauty’s entire line - they have a fab felt tip eyeliner that’s super black and not messy, but all of their products are beautiful and easy to blend.  I’m also having a momentary obsession with Makeup Forever’s Reflects Glitter and Cle de Peau lip colors as blush!

What product do you keep on you at all times?

Hands down Bobbi Brown's lip balm in the silver tin. It’s a great impromptu lip gloss without the stickiness and it makes your lips look like you got a little shot of filler. Also, it heals any dryness so I use it as a dry patch/cuticle cream in a pinch. You can use it as a cheek glow too. It looks pink but it’s clear when it goes on.

What skincare products are you using?

Currently, I’m using:

Moisturizer: Dr. Jart+ Ceramidin Cream or Embryolisse Lait Creme moisturizer, Herbivore Emerald CBD Face Oil ,

Masks: I live for are Mario Badescu Silver Powder and Herbivore masks

What are some upcoming makeup trends you’re excited about?

I'm loving the smudged makeup trend we saw on a lot of runways this fall. The splashes of color with organic form are so refreshing and just a ton of fun. It also makes bright, bold colors and dark hues more approachable. Many people get nervous about adding strong colors to their eyes, but this “not colored inside the lines” vibe is totally doable.

What are some you’re not so excited about?

I’m not jazzed about 90s lip liner—hard to wear without looking straight up dated, but cute in theory!

What’s the #1 question clients ask you as a MUA?

How to do eyeliner! My tip is to rest the brush where the lashes meet the eyelid and use your lashes as a guide and resistance so your hand doesn’t slip. When in doubt, line more of your lash than your lid and you’ll slowly learn how your hand fits the brush, how much pressure you need to use for each product and how to steady your hand.
